Astrid Loch-Wilkinson
Meet Dr. Astrid Loch-Wilkinson, the visionary behind Vets on the River. With over 16 years of veterinary experience and a profound passion for animal care, she leads the practice with unwavering dedication. As the Practice Owner and Head Veterinarian, Astrid embodies a philosophy of compassionate, quality care, fostering a clinic environment based on trust, excellence, and community focus. Her leadership creates a space where pets and their owners genuinely feel cared for and supported.
In addition to caring for her cat and dog patients, Astrid is captivated by all things under the sea, propelling her to pursue further studies in marine conservation through the University of Florida. Complementing this passion, she has received training in aquatic medicine through The Aquarium Vet, as well as at Taronga Zoo and Sydney University.
Beyond her clinic duties, Dr Astrid cherishes time with her family, including Niah, a delightful terrier cross, Baxter a dear old schnauzer and Spooky, her mischievous feline companion. Astrid is not only devoted to pet care but also maintains a keen interest in staying fit. Would you believe she’s a three-time Winter Olympian in bobsled, showcasing her dedication beyond the veterinary realm.
Alex Lind
Another friendly face you’ll see around the clinic is Alex, our practice manager and head nurse. With a calm and compassionate demeanour, she skilfully balances operational efficiency with a warm, welcoming atmosphere. Alex ensures both our team and clients feel supported and valued. Her top priority is patient care, treating each furry visitor as if they were her own.
In 2012, Alex earned her diploma in Veterinary Nursing. After two years in a mixed practice in her native New Zealand, she made the move to Australia in 2013. In Brisbane, Alex dedicated herself to delivering high-level nursing care at a bustling small animal clinic. Over the past five years, working alongside Dr. Astrid, their collaboration seamlessly complements each other’s strengths.
Outside of Alex’s clinic responsibilities, she finds joy in spending time with her husband and their poodle cross, Florence, alongside their slinky oriental cat, Maurice. Weekends are dedicated to exploring local eateries and relishing the peaceful ambiance of her home.
